Problem 3.2

A. If you were to make a coordinate graph, what would go on the x-axis and what would go on the y-axis?

I would put the tour price on the x-axis because it is the independent variable. I would put the number of people who would pay at this price on the y-axis because it is the dependent variable. The number of people who would pay at this price is the dependent variable because the people who would pay would only pay if the tour price was reasonable.

B. Make a coordinate graph of the data.

Customers For the Tour Price
scatterplotimage.png
x-axis= Tour Price
y-axis= Number who would be customers at this price

C. Based On your graph, what price do you think the tour operators should charge? Explain your reasoning.

I think the tour operators should make the price 400$ because they need a profit and they want customers to think it was a reasonable price. More than half of the people they started with were still saying yes, so I think it’s reasonable.

Problem 3.2 Follow Up

1. The number of people who said they would take the tour depended on the price. How does the number of potential customers change as the price increases?

As the price increases the amount of customers go down because the customers don’t want to lose too much of their money.

2. How is the change in the number of people who said they would go on the tour show in the table? On the graph?

The price started out low and the customers started out high. Then as the price went up the customers started to go down on the table. For example, when it was 150$ the customers were 76 and when it was 600$ the customers became 0. On the graph the dots only went down because price went up which made customers go down. For example, the highest dot was on 150$ and the lowest dot was on 600$.
